Prof. Dr. Christoph Stein (Berlin)
Novel strategies to reduce opioid side effects (Fr, 10.11.2017, 12:00-12:45)
This presentation will discuss novel approaches for the treatment of pain without side effects. Recent examples are a polyglycerol-morphine conjugate and the computer-assisted development of a fentanyl derivative (NFEPP) that selectively activate peripheral opioid receptors in injured (inflamed) but not in noninflamed tissues (brain, intestinal wall), thereby precluding adverse side effects such as respiratory depression, addiction potential, motor disturbance and constipation.
Dr. Manuel Boller (Melbourne, AUS)
Tender loving-care for the red gold: blood banking (Do, 09.11.2017, 09:45-10:30)
Access to a blood bank means life-saving blood products available just in time just in place. Learn how to keep your blood products happy.
SEPSIS: when a good thing turns ugly (Do, 09.11.2017, 14:45-15:30)
Learn about how an adaptive response to local infection turns into a harmful, dysregulated phenotype characterized by systemic inflammation, hypercoagulability, vascular leakage and hypoperfusion.
Acquired coagulopathies: stop it! (Do, 09.11.2017, 16:00-16:45)
This presentation, with a focus on perioperative patients, will summarize the most common acquired aetiologies for clinically relevant bleeding and current treatment options.
The final link to survival: post-cardiac arrest care (Sa, 11.11.2017, 10:00-10:45)
Most dogs and cats that initially regain return of spontaneous circulation do not survive to hospital discharge. This lecture will provide an overview of current post-cardiac arrest treatment strategies that aim at realizing the patients outcome potential.
